US doesn’t plan to capture Pak nukes: Boucher

Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher has said that Pakistan’s nukes are in safe hands and the US has no plans to seize them, a private TV channel reported on Thursday.

According to the channel, Boucher told an English daily that the US believed Pakistan was capable of foiling any bid to capture its nuclear arsenal and ruled out the suggestion that once the Taliban were defeated, the US would turn to Pakistan’s nukes.

“The US has earmarked $400 million in military aid for Pakistan for this year and $700 million for next year,” he added. He said the US would help the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the NWFP. The US has announced $602 million in aid for the IDPs, he added.
